What are the most common reasons for divorce?

Sometimes people are just incompatible. Even if you believe whole-heartedly that you were meant to be with your spouse, it does not always work out. According to Today and the CDC, 22 percent of couples will experience a disruption within the first five years. By 20 years, about 53 percent of all marriages experience divorce, separation or death.

For some couples, their values or their dreams do not align. Their idea of the future may not be the same. For others, there are several different possible factors.

Financial issues

Disagreements over finances can put a rift in a marriage. Your level of income does not necessarily matter. However, how you spend or save money can cause problems. Sometimes one partner may feel jealousy towards another for out-earning him or her.

Substance abuse problems

Addiction, in general, can be a factor behind a marriage split. Addiction and substance abuse can cause a lot of damage to a relationship. Typically, the one who does not struggle with addiction will gain courage and leave.

Catastrophic events

Marriages do not always withstand hardship. Hard circumstances can test a marriage. This hardship may be an illness diagnosis or a death in the family. The death of a child can be particularly difficult for a married couple to withstand.

Emotional and physical affairs

Infidelity may be one of the most common reasons that couples cite for a divorce. In today’s world, it may be even more common than before. People are more connected than they were prior. A person may not only take part in physical infidelity but emotional infidelity.
